Cities at GrimmHeimat Nordhessen

Kassel, half an hour from Hotel Sonneck, is ideal for a day trip. Visit the landmark of Kassel. The Hercules monument towers 530 meters above the rooftops of the city. It is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, the largest mountain park in Europe. The highlight in summer? The trick fountains.

Worth a visit – the Grimmwelt Kassel. Background: the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm originated in Nordhessen. In the permanent exhibition at Grimmwelt, you can find out more about life of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The Grimmwelt is interactive, artistic and valuable for all ages.

Historic half-timbered towns

Half-timbered buildings still characterise the image of small towns and villages in Nordhessen today. The special architectural style is symbolised by wood, clay, carvings and decorative elements. Further sights and excursion tips

Knüll Wildlife Park is located near Homberg (Efze). 450 animals from 40 species – well worth a visit. Geo-Naturpark Frau-Holle-Land is also beautiful. A highlight in spring is the cherry blossom in Witzenhausen. An idea for a day trip from Hotel Sonneck is the neighbouring National Park Kellerwald-Edersee. One of the largest beech forest areas in Germany is located around the famous reservoir.
